Happy Independence Day! I think this year was one of the most low-key Fourths I’ve had in awhile, maybe forever. When I was younger, my family would always spend the holiday in Maine and watch the small town parade in the morning, followed by a long day at the river. Today, though, was spent baking a completely dairy-free cake (it’s chocolate under that flag, recipe coming soon) as well as playing with sparklers, trying to spell words and draw shapes. I made sure to get Delila nice and patriotic with a star printed bandana made from a 19″ square of fabric. Experimenting with the new recipe, decorating the cake and lighting sparklers for the first time all served as highlights from the day and made for a great 4th of July!
